"S-400": 10 blancos con 20 misiles

The Triumf system is more than two times more effective that previous systems. Each system can attack 10 targets with up to 20 missiles.

Deputy Defence Minister: Russia’s new S-500 system to destroy any target at any altitude
MOSCOW, March 26. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s new fifth-generation air defence system S-500 will be able to destroy any target at any altitude, Deputy Defence Minister Yuri Borisov said on Wednesday, March 26.
“Work is underway to create a new fifth-generation air defence system S-500 which can destroy aerodynamic and ballistic targets of all types at all altitudes used in combat,” he said.
Borisov said S-400 systems would continue to be supplied to the Aerospace Defence Troops this year. The system “is about 2-2.5 times better than existing systems in terms of cost efficiency”, he added.
S-400 Triumf air defence systems were put on combat duty in Russia's Southern Military District at the end of last year to replace S-300PM missiles.
Supplies of new air defence systems to the 4th Air Force and Air Defence Command in the District started in 2009. Since then, more than 60 pieces of new military hardware have been delivered and put into operation.
The Triumf system is more than two times more effective that previous systems. Each system can attack 10 targets with up to 20 missiles.

  1. Hi Charlie - the 91N6 is indeed a 96L6 Vehicle. It is just too short for 91N6 (19m) or 64N6 (21m). Both Systems (92N6 or 96L6) are removed from their cars and set on top of the 40V6MD (or in this case 40V6M).
The "Big Bird" sites around Moscow are fixed sites. The one for 606 Rgt (which has still one S-300PM) is here 55.680108° 38.318570° and covers three Btn:
    S-400 55.796308° 38.357293° (your site) and 55.543436° 38.373120° and the S-300PM over here 55.673486° 38.363107°
    Cheers

  2. Hola

    1. There is a book about Russian air defense systems - the most comprehensive book EVER published about it. Inform me how to send it to you.

      About 520 pages in Russian/English. Published Rosoboronexport/Almaz-Antey from 2011

    2. an Air Defense Regiment (or Brigade) is a unit which consists of up to three Batteries (or Batallions).
I stay with "Regiment" and "Batterie". Usually one Batterie is at one site. Usually up to 8 launcher (for PS, PM and S-400). Suported by e.g. 92N6 and 96L6. 91N6 (or 64N6) supports more than one Batterie.
The pattern around Moscow prove that. There is definitely no BiG Bird sitting at a batterei site. Around Moscow they have separate sites.
The Vehicle is 21m (on MAZ truck) or 19m (on BAZ for 91N6 - due to shorter cabin)

    3. Hola

  4. - There are 7 regiments of S-400 (not 6)
    - There is a strict reason as to why all the S-400 regiments are mixed
    - There are stict reason which define the ways Russia will build its regimental/brigade structure (nothing is accidental :) )
    - here is a file (http://speedy.sh/cRkcs/Air-Defense-Russia.pdf)

  5. Hola

    Regimiento (varios batallones)

Again, there are one higher and one (!) lower organisational structure. Call it Regiment and Battery or Brigade and Battalion. The higher structure has 2 / 3 or even 4 smaller units. Each of them usually at one site.

    4. Hola

  9. 1. There are 7 S-400 regiments (1 non operational yet - delivered to its location - only one out of two delivered during 2013 took its position)

    2. For PVO you have ( battery -> regiment -> brigade )
For PVO-V you have (regiment -> brigade)

Smallest operational unit in PVO is battery which may have different forms depending on many things just like regiment and brigade.

In PVO-V you have only regimental structure as a smallest operational unit.

Keep that in mind. So once more.

    PVO:

    battery - smallest operational unit
up to 6 batteries = regiment
    2 regiments = brigade

    PVO-V

regiment = smallest operational unit cinsistion of up to 4 batteries (although none of them (batteries) can operate on their own)

brigade = up to 3 regiments

    1. sector defense of Moscow has 8 AD Regiments. Each RGt has two or three Battries (=Battalions=sites)
      606 (2 S-400; 1 S-300PM) / 210 (2 S-400; 1 S-300PM) / 93 (1 S-400; 2 S-300PM) / 614 (3 S-300PM) / 549 (2 S-300PM) / 629 (3 S-300PM) / 612 (2 S-300PM) / 584 (2 S-300PM)
So we have 3 RGt there partly equipped with S-400
Gwardeisk (Kaliningrad) has 1 RGt (183rd) with two (!) Batteries at one (!) former S-200 site
Nachodka has 1 RGt (589th) with two Batteries at two sites
Novorossisk has 1 RGt (1537th) with two Batteries at two sites

So we have 6 Rgt with a total of 11 Batteries right now.
St.Petersburg area is not yet deployed.
Every Discussion about higher command structures are senseless because on satellite we will find sites (equipped with Batteries = Battalions) belonging to Regiments
      Cheers

  10. Hola

    http://charly015.blogspot.com.es/2014/03/otro-regimiento-s-400-en-2014.html
